Reason Union Pacific trains are not running west out of Denver






"This would be the ascent of the foothills just south of Boulder, near the CTC siding at Plainview (named for the view onto the plains as shown in one of the photos). There are 30 tunnels between MP 23.42 and MP 40.48
(Plainview is 24.45 and 18 of the tunnels are between 23.42 and 39.97). The grade is 2.00 percent with 12 degree curves. Near this same spot you get a glimpse of the Flatirons above Boulder, and it was a surprise to me
how close to Boulder the alignment comes before getting past this initial ascent. "


These pics were taken by a conductor in DEN. This washout is over 100ft deep.
